NO.1 STATION are the vanguards of a brand new generation of Blue Beat music; music derived from the classic dance beats of traditional Jamaican Ska, Rocksteady and early Reggae; beats that were known simply as Blue Beat amongst the Rudies, Mods and other followers of the sixties UK dance scene, and now a term revived by Marcus Downbeat to describe the contemporary sounds of this new music.
An eight piece band consisting of a driving rhythm section, blistering horns, and melodic blues vocals, No.1 Station get the crowds on their feet, rocking to the beat wherever they perform.
Formed from the conception of Marcus Downbeat – a long-time Lee Perry collaborator and member of the Upsetters. No.1 Station have been popular favourites on the London and UK underground scene over the past number of years, and supported Roxy Music on their first UK Arena tour which included dates at the O2 Arena London. No.1 Station have also played many festivals including Glastonbury Festival.
No.1 Station revived the original Blue Beat Label and released a number of vinyl singles on the imprint. Their last album – Boss Beat – is regarded as a contemporary classic and has received enormous critical acclaim and extensive radio play.
The band played 3 live sessions for BBC Radio 2 and Mark Lamarr, who described them as “The UK’s Premiere Ska band."
The launch of the latest NO.1 STATION album The Blue Beat Sessions took place at the Mayfair Arts Club London.
The next single from The Blue Beat Sessions will be released on August 18th 2014, let's all get ready to "Boogie"! It's called Laurel's Boogie.
